The big problem that stands in the way of a movie like Gladiator Constructing an Organic, easy-to-write sequel is that if you kill your protagonist, you need to figure out how to bring them or move on without them.
It sounds like the current form of development for director Ridley Scott’s potential Gladiator 2 is taking that latter path, but there was a time when a few really wanted to maintain Russell Crowe’s Maximus from the match. As per usual, the methodology involved was downright biblical.

It’s a conversation which Took place as far back as when Gladiator turned into a box office and awards season hit in 2000 since the strength and honor of Maximus Decimus Meridius leaving this ground has led to some rather wild strategies to bring him back for Gladiator two.
I haven’t spoken to Doug for a long long time. Last Moment I talked to Doug, he said he had this excellent idea where Maximus gets hauled in the scene and they pull this big rock and he has placed it to this cave and then the stone closes over and he is anointed with oils. And then the stone opens and he comes out. And I said,’Doug, I don’t think we have the rights to this story’ But this has been a long, long time ago and I really don’t think he appreciated my sense of humor at the moment.
Maintain In your head, Gladiator 2 has seen itself undergo everything in the very considerable route of Nick Cave’s draft showing Maximus wandering through many reincarnations, to the proposal Russell Crowe’s representative gave to Douglas Wick that Maximus being disclosed as still alive after Gladiator’s climactic struggle, as a part of a plot to fake his own death.
But having this iconic warrior of modern cinema go the full Jesus course was something that even Crowe himself needed to poke fun at, whether or not it landed with his audience at the time.
Making Another Gladiator movie is hard enough even when you’re trying to generate a clone of that experience in a different story or age. The film that Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe, and Douglas Wick aided send to viewers was an exceptional mix of gift and chance that comes less often than you’d think.
With motion on a Gladiator two that will observe a few decades dividing the past and the current in the information, we’ll have to wait and see exactly what this newer version of the followup to Maximus’ good sacrifice will entail.
But one Thing’s for certain: you will not need to hang out a portrait of Russell Crowe on your wall in time for Sunday mass. Though you might be able to view him in a theater near you this weekend, even as Unhinged opens in Theatres on Friday.
