Shadowlands expansion due to working from home conditions brought on by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A new release date hasn’t been ascertained, but the studio said Shadowlands will nevertheless release later this year.
In a blog article Declaring the delay, executive producer John Hight said it wasn’t an easy choice to make but one that was necessary for the expansion and also for World of Warcraft players. Hight also stated the additional development time will allow the team to add extra polish to Shadowlands’ endgame.
“As everything began coming together and we’ve been listening to and building upon your feedback, it has become clear we need a bit more time for additional shine, and also to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces–especially those associated with the endgame,” Hight said. “Shadowlands is one of the most complex expansions we have yet created, and while we’ve made great progress, the struggle of turning the endgame was compounded by the team having to operate at home.

“Blizzard includes a Commitment to quality. We think Shadowlands will be something particular, and we’ve heard from many of you who feel exactly the same. We need this additional time to ensure that Shadowlands lives up to its entire potential.”
The studio still plans to release the Shadowlands pre-patch on October 13. This update lays the foundation for the growth, replete with a revamped character leveling system, new-player encounter on Exile’s Reach, and a bevy of further character customization options.

The Shadowlands growth Will earn a number of adjustments and changes into World of Warcraft, including reducing the Level cap from 120 to 60 and adding Controller support.
